Hi Brian Thanks for the comment. I found a really good piece over on www.dochara.com that delves into the tradition of the 'Rag Tree' or 'Raggedy Bush'. The author mentions that the custom is popular among Travellers who also have an attachment to Holy Wells. The notion is also put forward that if a piece of clothing belong to an ill person is hung from the tree, then, as the rag rots, the person becomes better. Or, the rag may represent a wish or a hope that a person might have, and that the wish comes true as the rag rots. I am interested to read about this rag tree. I came across a similar tree in a place called “Seir Kieran” in Co Offaly (see
https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/111333520922943929105/albums/5406924968753895793/5406641174425515266 for a picture).

I asked a few locals who told me that it was traditional to tie rags on this tree on 5th of March each year, but nobody seemed sure why this tradition was established. Do you know anything about what the tradition means in Mount Mellory?

I took my picture in November so the rags are in poor condition from having been left out in all weather for several month.

Jason had a website and found the logot that he created stolen by someone else and used for their own website with a similar name. He was so annoyed and threatened legal action. They took down the logo but never apologised. It really is theft. Glad you’re fighting it.
