The Irish Coast Guard Helicopter (or at least one of them) was out and about while we were on Hook Head last week. I was getting back into the car having taken a few photos of the lighthouse, when I heard the ‘copter approaching.
Thinking I could grab a few photos of it, I practically galloped across the rocks in my attempt not to miss out on shooting the massive red and white beast!
Unfortunately, as big and all as it was, it was a good bit further away than I thought.
And the blinding sun was in my eyes….which didn’t help….
…..and my lens wouldn’t zoom in any further. (I’ve done a zoom and crop with Photoshop here.)
I’m not sure what exactly was going on with the yachts, but it seemed like I was doomed to take photos of the chopper in microscopic proportions.
Dun Dun DUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!
See what it’s doing in that picture?? It’s TURNING!!!
I nearly fell off the rocks with the excitement of it!! (I’d have seen it an awful lot closer if I had.)
Coming STRAIGHT at me!!!
And I managed to get a couple of half decent photos after all.
HALF decent, I said….
Ok, so they’re not BRILLIANT photos, but I think I got more enjoyment out of watching the chopper more than anything else – they’re just so magnificent!
I’ve been a little bit fascinated by them since 2009 when I participated in a National Civil Defence Exercise in Kilworth. Below are a few photos from the day.
